Wise co-founder Taavet Hinrikus and Teleport co-founder Sten Tamkivi will merge their solo investment funds into a new funding unit focused on the hot tech scene.
As angel investors, Hinrikus and Tamkivi – who worked together in the early days of Skype – have supported hundreds of other entrepreneurs and new businesses with seed money investments.
Tamkivi says, “We have both invested decades to help create the future of finance, work and mobility. There are still many futures to be created. We look forward to hearing from the founders formulate new investment theses: education, health and longevity, climate sustainability, competitive governance and democracy, to name a few.
Using their own capital, Hinrikus and Tamkivi will function as equal investment partners in the new fund, which is already operational with six employees based in Tallinn, Estonia.
The current portfolio is geographically focused on Europe, but also extends from the United States to Japan and Singapore. This includes a list of mutual investments in companies such as Wise, Bolt, Veriff, LHV, Xolo, Oyster HR, Pactum, Starship, Curve, Sunrise, Acapela and others.
“We can get involved in a technology company with an initial initial investment of 250,000 to 1 million euros and have the freedom to go through all cycles until the IPO,” says Hinrikus. “We plan to collaborate with our investor peers, rather than conducting transactions. We can take positions in crypto tokens, real assets, or any other alternative financial instrument, if it helps the mission of our world-changing businesses. ”
